How the days between dates calculator works
Total days come from the difference in calendar time, so leap years are handled automatically. The years-months-days breakdown counts whole calendar months first and then measures the remainder, which is why 31 January to 1 March reads as one month and one day rather than a fractional month. Business days are counted by walking the range and excluding Saturdays and Sundays.
